At the WCAC owners are allowed to surrender their animals to the shelter if the owner can/will no longer care for the pet. While visiting on May 23 and 24 I came across quite a few animals with owner surrender sheets. The three I chose to photograph are Colonel Whiskas, Smokey, and, Shadow. One of the sheets said it was because they had to move from their current home into an apartment, another said they were no longer able to financially keep the dog, and another was that a medical situation arose within the owner and they were not physically able to take care of the pet anymore.

Moving, and medical reasons often are reasons that animals are surrendered I have realized. Before this class I never realized how moving affects pets. Thank you for sharing the ways the animals you chose were surrendered, it is interesting.
ReplyDeleteI see the reason you posted about why the animals are surrendered a recurring theme at the shelter and its so sad they surrendered but at the same time it is kinda a good thing because now the shelter can find a good home for the animals. I can't wait to see your images for this post!
ReplyDeleteSadly, this these are very common reasons. I would love to see you correct these files to make the animals more adoptable. The cat photograph is beautiful, but the other two need to be lighted and color corrected. It is good that they are both looking at the camera though.
